SECOND CENTURY HOUSE
New stewards of a long-vacant property, sought to preserve the charm and character of the original home from 1900, while expanding and renovating it to accommodate their family, remote work, and guests. To keep the original house as the focal point, the addition steps down and extends to the side and rear of the main house and the split-level addition tucks under the existing roofline to create an intimate loft above and a sunken primary bath below, including a double-height screened porch which further shades the presence of the new volume. Original elements were restored, salvaged materials were incorporated throughout, and new materials were selected for their continuity, durability and timelessness.
