Lincoln Chapel
Lincoln Chapel is a 400sf solid concrete structure on a sprawling site amongst oak trees in Georgetown, Texas. The trapezoidal plan seats 30, narrowing at the altar to focus attention on the couple and expanding out towards witnesses to accommodate up to 200 guests when pivot doors (spanning the full width of the building) are open. A tall glass steeple-like facade creates a double-height space over the altar and reflects the adjacent landscape. The form draws inspiration from the iconography of house and church. The durable concrete, glass, and steel structure opens to take advantage of passive cooling.
