THE PERCH
A 660sf studio space shaped to fit just above an existing bungalow and just below the City of Austin setback tent. The Perch rests on four steel columns, piercing through existing bungalow walls below to resist lateral forces. Shop-built steel was craned into place to minimally disturb the site, and the cantilevered form gently sways in the wind, a reminder of its construction.
Low maintenance Corten siding matches existing site elements, and an open grate with expanded metal staircase is barefoot (and paw) friendly while allowing light to permeate.
